Merit Award: Can staff review a draft of my proposal before the deadline?
Staff does not review written materials in advance of the application deadline. We are available, however, to speak with applicants by phone to answer questions.
Merit Award: Can I call IMAP staff to find out the status of my application?
IMAP staff cannot provide any information on the status of submissions received. Applicants will be informed in writing of all decisions made regarding an application.
Merit Award: Can I request an in-person meeting with staff to discuss my application?
In order to be fair to people who do not live within easy traveling distance of New York City, IMAP does not provide in-person meetings to applicants. IMAP staff is available to answer questions by email and phone.
Merit Award: Is there an application cover sheet? What contact information should I include?
There is no application cover sheet for the Merit Award. In your application, please include basic information such as your name, title, address, email address, and telephone number.
Merit Award: Is the award competitive? How many applications do you receive? How many awards will you make?
As 2008 is the first year of the Advocacy Merit Award program, we cannot predict the response. However, we expect significant interest and the award will likely be extremely competitive. We will make three awards.
Merit Award: Are physicians doing non-U.S. based advocacy eligible to apply?
No, only physicians doing advocacy work focused on the United States are eligible to apply for the Merit Award.
Merit Award: How can I nominate someone for the Merit Award?
You can nominate someone else for the Physician Advocacy Merit Award, or physicians may nominate themselves. If you would like to nominate someone else, you must first inform the person you are nominating that you plan to do so. As the nominator and the person initiating the process, you may complete the entire application, including soliciting the other letters of reference and compiling the documentation. As an alternative, the nominator may write one of the letters of reference, stating that they are nominating the applicant, and the applicant may complete the personal statement herself/himself. Any combination of these is acceptable.
