Advocacy Initiatives at IMAP

IMAP currently supports two initiatives designed to support the growth of advocacy in medicine. Our Education and Training Initiative supports the growth of advocacy within institutions, while the Merit Award program supports individual physicians. In concert, these two programs will help create a tipping point where advocacy is normalized in the profession, and legitimized within the academy.

For details about how to apply for these programs, please visit our Application Information page.

The Physician Advocacy Fellowship is no longer active.  From 1999-2007 (first at the Open Society Institute and then at Columbia University), the Advocacy Fellowship supported physicians to develop or enhance their advocacy skills by implementing a project in partnership with an advocacy organization. For more information, and to learn about the Fellows we funded, visit our Fellows page.

Information on physician advocacy and community engagement is available in our Advocacy Resources Directory.

For the program's contact information, please visit the Advisory Committee and Staff page.  For any particular questions about the Advocacy portion of the website, please email us.
